Carbon-X
An open 14.8B language model for working with DNA, built on Qwen3-14B. You send a raw sequence right in an ordinary chat, and it answers in English: it judges whether a mutation is benign or pathogenic, finds regions that control gene activity, assigns a sequence to an organism group, predicts the next bases and explains its reasoning. DNA and text go in one stream, with DNA encoded in groups of six bases. By the authors' tests, on five sets it scores 66.7% without reasoning, 27 points above Qwen3-14B, and costs about 1,800 times less than GPT-6.1 Sol at a close result. It fits on a single 80 GB card, so sensitive data can stay with you. Viral data was excluded from training because of the risks. The conclusions are computed and do not replace laboratory verification.

Frequently asked questions
Can Carbon-X be used in a commercial project?
Yes. License: Apache 2.0. It allows commercial use, but it is still worth having a lawyer review the license before launch.
What hardware does Carbon-X need?
At minimum: One GPU with 16–80 GB — mid-size versions. Without a GPU the model is not practical. You can calculate the exact VRAM for your model size and context in the hardware calculator.
Does Carbon-X support Russian?
No. The developer documentation lists the supported languages and Russian is not among them.
Where can I download Carbon-X and what does it cost?
The Carbon-X weights are open and free to download. You only pay for the hardware it runs on and for the setup. Source links are at the bottom of this page.
How I deploy it for clients
- SelectionI pick the model size for your task and hardware and test it on your examples.
- DeploymentI deploy it on your server or in a closed network and provide an API.
- Fine-tuningI fine-tune it on your data (LoRA) or connect a knowledge base — whichever is cheaper for the task.
- IntegrationI connect it to your CRM, ERP, bot, website or team chat and set up monitoring.
